THE PEOPLE WHO MOVED 6,000 MILES TO ESCAPE THE WEST
Details
Ben Zand secures unprecedented access to an isolated off-grid commune deep in the Costa Rican jungle to meet those who have completely rejected Western society.
Among them is Tamsin, a British mother who traded the "9-5 grind" for a life in the wild with her son. While the parents revel in their newfound utopia, Ben uncovers a troubling generational divide: a cohort of unschooled, isolated children who actively crave the structure and connection their parents fled.
By pushing further into the extremes—from a total hermit to a "digital nomad" remote worker—Ben forces a tense confrontation with an uncomfortable truth. This investigative documentary explores whether detaching from a "broken" system provides ultimate freedom, or simply creates a new, more restrictive one for the next generation.
